Raising Capable Children
The life skills we're practicing this summer in our journey to raise capable, confident, and considerate human beings
One of my favorite things about summer is that life slows down just enough to make room for learning that doesn’t always happen during the school year.
This summer – on my journey of raising capable, confident, and considerate human beings – I’m focusing on life skills.
Yes, we will explore new places (Duck!) and yes, we will visit people we love (great-grandmothers!), but my goal with this extra time is to intentionally share as many age-appropriate life skills as possible.
My oldest children are in elementary school, so much of this is geared toward them, though my youngest—my darling preschooler—is absolutely along for the ride.
As a parent—and as someone who now teaches etiquette for a living - I’ve become increasingly convinced that confidence is built through practice. Rehearsal, if you will. Not by being told you’re capable, but by actually doing the (sometimes scary) thing and proving to yourself that you are capable.
So, below I’m sharing the life skills we’ll be practicing this summer on my journey of raising capable, confident, and considerate human beings ready for the road ahead.
